December 16-24 (yes I’m workin’ Christmas Eve): Gifted Market curated by the Brooklyn Flea, but in Manhattan! Located at the corner of Lafayette and East 4th Street…Weds-Sunday!

This Saturday, 10/24, I’ll be at the Brooklyn Indie Market for my second year at the Steampunk Fair! It’s pretty awesome. The fashion show last year was super over-the-top. I’ll have all kinds of samples and one-of-a-kind pieces for sale at trunk show prices.

I’m also accepting Halloween orders, both custom and via the shop – deadline is 10/22 in order to ship in time! Or 10/26 for local pickup.

Found a great trove of vintage fashion photos of experimental and daring hats from the 40s & 50s…

I could just sit and look at photos of old hats all day long…or even better, go visit them. I know a few hat collectors – I wish I could open a gallery so their gorgeous hats can be seen by the public (when they’re not getting worn around town…)

it’s been a mild and rainy summer but still too hot to linger in my house…I’ve spent every spare moment on a bike or at a picnic, preferably.

a Sunday storm after a fortuitous trip to my favorite swimming hole gave me a day to assemble terrariums! I moved a striped garden snail (Seymour) into the largest one, which is now a bit littered with his blueberries and greens.

in the background there you can also see my other handmade effort – homebrewed ginger ale!

I used a recipe from learningherbs.com. I found that it needs maybe twice as much ginger! for my tastes, at least, having grown up on South Carolina’s Blenheim Ginger Ale which is spicy…

use plastic bottles or else you’ll have grenades :) it’s just like magic when you crack your first bottle open and it fizzes…

I posted a few shots from the Venice Bienniale, of the feather pieces I made on the Swimming Cities of Serenissima voyage…

materials: scavenged seagull feathers, vintage pearl trim from India, hand-shaped rusty wire.

We wore them in our circus shadow-puppet performance on the rafts, while docked at the island of Certosa.

We are working on big plans for next spring in ever-farther-flung locations…

I think we set a new record! From costume concept to execution in only two days of work. Then again, this wasn’t our first trip to the rodeo – Team Pearl included veterans of the Fakework Girls (notorious shopping cart racers in the annual Idiotarod), the Madagascar Institute (fresh from the 10th anniversary gala), and a pro puppeteer.

I’m still vacuuming up little bits of cream satin and gold sequins…so grateful to my hardworking friends for indulging my vision of a Busby Berkeley-retro-Victorian postcard, and for letting me put them in hotpants and parade them up and down the boardwalk.

The annual New York Easter Parade is one of my favorite days of the year…my friends and I gather in the week ahead and make elaborate bonnets. The Tavern on the Green hosts an official competition with a petting zoo! here are some of Jenene’s photos over the years…

This year I am also excited to stop by and see the circus and magic-themed Lanvin windows at Bergdorf’s!
